Secondary State Assessments

The Role of State Assessments
Colorado has a series of educational standards known as the Colorado Academic Standards that outline academic objectives for students in every grade across 10 content areas. Fully implemented in the 2013-14 school year, the standards are designed to ensure students are prepared to succeed in their path of choice upon high school graduation. Colorado has implemented a set of common assessments known as the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) and PSAT/SAT. The Classical Academy publishes the assessment calendar each fall based on the CDE guidelines.  Each school will communicate its testing schedule on or before March 1, 2021.

State Testing Information

This year, TCA seventh and eighth-grade students will be taking the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) tests. Additionally, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be taking the PSAT-8/9, the PSAT-10, the SAT-11, and the CMAS Science-11 assessments. Our commitment is to minimize the impact testing has on the learning environment while still striving to collect the most helpful student achievement and growth data possible.

The Colorado Department of Education, in partnership with College Board, has announced that it will support an optional SAT administration for 12th-grade students enrolled in Colorado public schools this fall. Due to the unique role this assessment may serve for students, the state-sponsored fall administration is meant to provide interested eligible students with an opportunity to take, at no expense to them, the SAT in place of the spring 2020 SAT school day exam that was not administered due to school closures that resulted from the COVID-19 public health crisis.

The SAT school day test administration will take place on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at The Classical Academy for 12th-grade students

  • Students do not need to register
  • No fee for SAT test
  • Students that signed up to take the SAT with essay in the spring, are registered to take the SAT with essay at this administration
