2026 Parent Academy Class Descriptions
Come and enjoy an evening with other elementary parents in our TCA community. You will sign up for 1 Session A class and 1 Session B class. See class descriptions below.
Math Games and Activities: Turn family time into learning time! Come discover fun, easy-to-play games you can enjoy around the kitchen table with your children while strengthening essential math skills.
- Session A: Games that build addition and subtraction fluency
- Session B: Games that strengthen multiplication and division skills
Bar Model Practice: Bar models are an important tool students use in Dimensions Math to make sense of and solve word problems. If bar models are new to you, or if you’re wondering how to help your child use them at home, this session is for you! Come learn how bar models work, when to use them, and how they help students think through challenging problems.
- Session A: Parents of 3rd & 4th graders
- Session B: Parents of 5th & 6th graders
Cultivating Habits of Mind, Body, and Spirit: Charlotte Mason says in her book, When Children Love to Learn, “The formation of habits is education and education is the formation of habits.” Students are set up for success when the formation of habits is prioritized. Join this session to discuss the importance of habits, the effect they have in the classroom, and how we can partner with teachers to help our children build a solid foundation. We will also briefly discuss the usage of Love & Logic in support of habit formation. This session is geared for parents of all age ranges.
Giving Our Kids the Gift of Failure: Have you ever thought of failure as being a gift? Come engage in a rich discussion with other parents as we reframe our view of how to put failure in its proper place in our children’s lives. Allowing them to experience failure and the power of resilience, we can equip them for greater success in life! Each attendee will receive a copy of the Gift of Failure by Jessica Lahey. This session is geared for parents of all age ranges.
