As we continue our study of The Odyssey, we wanted you to be aware of their final project that will be due Tuesday, October 6th. Students will be completing a creative final project that allows them to use their imagination and demonstrate what they have learned.
What students need to create at home:
Students will design and build their own original 3D monster or mythical creature—something they imagine Odysseus could encounter on his journey.
The creature:
- Must be the student's own original creation
- Must be 3-dimensional
- Cannot exceed 12" x 12" x 12"
- Should be neat and creative
Students may use materials they have available at home. The goal is creativity, not an expensive or elaborate project!
In class, students will also write a 12–15 sentence chapter telling the story of Odysseus encountering their creature. If students use their time wisely at school, they should not have to worry about completing this at home; however, it is always recommended that you check in.
Finally, on Tuesday, October 6th students will bring their creatures to class and read their story while displaying their creations. The presentation should be approximately 2–3 minutes long.

Announcements
Welcome, 6th Graders!
It is so good to see all your lovely faces again! All important notices will be posted below throughout the year. See the calendar to the right for important school and 6th grade specific dates!
6th grade EPIC
Purpose:
To allow the 6th graders to create a theme for the year that they define and own; to rise-up to the challenge of living out an EPIC year. This brings fun perks and benefits yet also allows for growth in leadership. EPIC is a wonderful way for our kids to live the creed and philosophy in a responsible, meaningful, and fun way!
Process:
The entire 6th grade class brainstorms unique character words for each letter (E,P,I,C). Then, they vote on which word they want to represent each letter for their EPIC year! Results in a week or two.
Product:
4 EPIC fun nights – For students and parents to engage together in PE games and activities; to promote health, wellness, laughter, and a little bit of sweat!! They are held from 6:30 – 8pm on the following Thursday evenings: 9/24, 11/19, 2/18, 4/15.
EPIC shirts:
Designed by students and staff, these can be worn on Fridays and any EPIC day announced by Coach. ORDER your child’s size using LINK below! The shirt will be used as their FIELD DAY shirt and is paid for in student fees.
GO to https://signup.com/go/MMayKVZ and “sign-up” for the shirt size. You will be asked for the name of your student and teacher.
Shirt Sizes are due by Friday, September 4th and have been paid for through your school fees!
EPIC PE/ART/SPANISH volunteer:
To become an EPIC volunteer, students will need to complete a “What does it mean to be an EPIC 6th grader” paragraph, ensure all classroom work has been turned in, and have displayed appropriate “EPIC” behavior throughout the week. When the requirements are met, the student will be able to assist in a 1st grade class, based on a rotation schedule set up by the teachers.
EPIC Field Day Assistants
6th graders will be assisting for 1st-3rd field day as either a classroom buddy or station worker!

- Location: TCA Central gym
- Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm (doors opens at 6:20)
- Attire: “Comfy” PE clothes and sneakers!
- Attitude: Absolutely EPIC
